"We are sorry representatives from CAIR do not feel enough was done to accommodate their wishes in San Bruno at last week’s City Council meeting (March 12, 2024).
The City of San Bruno was contacted by a San Bruno resident the day before our regularly scheduled City Council meeting, requesting that those of the Muslim faith wanting to testify before the City Council be given accommodation to pray and break fast as part of Ramadan. The City did its best, under a very short deadline, to set up tents and create an eating area outside of the City Council chambers (where the City’s business is conducted) to accommodate their request. They rejected the City’s accommodations and instead brought food and drink into the lobby of the City Council chambers.
We note that the police are present at every City Council meeting. Recently, we have added additional police officers as the discourse at these public meetings has become heated. In fact, one city staff member was harassed and subjected to threats by some of those audience members in the parking lot after the meeting. The added police staff at San Bruno are there to protect citizens, City staff, and residents."
