Child Watch FAQ's
1. What is the Child Watch Program?
- The Child Watch Program is a convenient, drop-off childcare service that allows parents to work out and enjoy the RAC while their children are safely supervised in a secure, engaging environment.
2. Who is eligible to participate?
- Children aged 3.5 - 13 years
- Fully potty-trained
- Healthy children, symptom free of illness (e.g., fever, persistent cough, vomiting, pink eye, etc.)
- Guardian must have a valid ID and/or family membership
3. What is the check-in / check-out process?
- Arrival: Visit the RAC Service Desk and inform staff that you're here for Child Watch
- First Time: If you haven't yet signed the Child Watch Policy Agreement, you will need to do so (this will be kept on file for future visits).
- Registration: The Service Desk will verify you in the system and process payment, then direct you to Classroom 3 (or the current designated location) where you will sign the check-in / check-out form and drop off your child.
- Pick-up: Return to the Child Watch area, sign your child out, and pick them up within the 90-minute session.
4. How long can my child stay in Child Watch?
- Each session is limited to a maximum of 90 minutes. Parents or guardians must remain on the premises during the entire time their child is in care.
5. What should I know about preparing my child for Child Watch?
- Snacks & Drinks: Snacks must be finished outside of the Child Watch area. Only water is allowed inside - please use a closed, labeled container.
- Personal Items: No personal toys or electronics are permitted. Comfort items (e.g. a favorite stuffed animal) are acceptable.
- Footwear: Shoes must be worn at all times.
6. What are the illness policies?
- Symptoms to watch: Children with fever, diarrhea, persistent cough, thick green nasal discharge, vomiting, pink eye, or an unexplained rash should not attend.
- Medication Guidelines: If y our child has been prescribed antibiotics, they must complete 24 hours of treatment before returning. Additionally, your child must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours prior to attending.
- In-Care Illness: If your child becomes ill while in our care, we will contact you immediately for pickup. Please inform us if your child falls ill after attending Child Watch.
7. What are the behavior expectations?
- Positive Environment: Our goal is to provide a safe, healthy, and enjoyable environment for every child.
- Guidelines: In the event of behavioral challenges (e.g. excessive crying, biting, or hitting), our staff will use positive reinforcement strategies such as redirection or a brief time away from the group.
- Pickup Policy: If behavioral issues persist for more than 10 minutes, you will be required to pick up your child.
8. Are there any restrictions while my child is in Child Watch?
- Parental Presence: You must remain on the RAC premises while your child is in care.
- Cell Phone Use: The use of cell phones is prohibited within the Child Watch area.
9. What are the operating hours and costs?
Hours have shifted to align with Camp Connection for the summer!

- San Bruno Residents: $5 per session
- Non-Residents: $7 per session
- RAC Members: Free (subsidized by a San Bruno Community Foundation Strategic Grant)
10. Where is Child Watch located?
- The primary location in Classroom 3. In the event of space or rental conflicts, the program may temporarily move to another location.
11. How is Child Watch staffed?
- Staffing Levels: Typically, two staff members supervise the children based on scheduling and attendance.
- Communication: The Child Watch area is equipped with a radio system for direct communication with the RAC Front Desk and full-time staff to ensure timely assistance when needed.
12. How do I sign up for Child Watch?
- Simply visit our registration website or pick up a copy of the Child Watch Policy at the RAC Service Desk.
- Read, sign, and submit the policy agreement before your first drop-off. The signed agreement will remain on file for all future visits.
